DIgSILENT PowerFactory Monitor for SESCO, Kuching/Malaysia

DIgSILENT PowerFactory Monitor for SESCO, Kuching/Malaysia. DIgSILENT GmbH has reveiced a purchase order over 5 units of the PowerFacory Monitor (PFM) from SESCO in Kuching/Malaysia. It is SESCO's intention to upgrade their exisiting monitoring systems from Power Technologies (PTI) with the portable and more flexible system from DIgSILENT. As SESCO's system is operated isolated from TNB and other neighbouring countries, system contingencies can have major effect on excursions of frequency and bus voltages. In addition, SESCO is interconnected with one of the world largest LNG plants located in Bintulu requiring high quality and high reliability supply. SESCO's decision for the flexible PFM system from DIgSILENT is mainly based on the following considerations:

  • The PFM integrates standard fault recording features with flexible monitoring functions. This is obviously one of the most important aspects, as in relatively small systems frequency and voltage excursion may continue over a long period after the initial event causing those transients. Consequently, the 3-level recording and monitoring of the PFM system will (a) initially capture high speed transients such is overvoltages, fault currents etc. in the range of milliseconds on basis of instantaneous phase quantities, will (b) then capture mid-term transients such as frequency excursion, voltages, power flows or other plant related signals (valve positions, fuel flows, pressures, temperatures, etc.) on basis of RMS and phasor quantities in the range of seconds and minuties, and will (c) provide permanent recordings of all quantities with data sampling rates of some 0.5 to 2 seconds allowing to precisely analysis pre-fault and post-fault conditions. Full flexibility is also given for setting-up complex trigger and re-trigger conditions.
  • In addition to permanent PFM installations in substations or plants, DIgSILENT's PFM is a most flexible and comfortable device for implementing system tests and tests on plants or specific components. The PFM is a compact device which can be operated and controlled via standard laptop computer and can easily be transported and carried as hand luggage. One of the major advantage of the PFM is it's flexible software configuration which is based on the powerful PowerFactory software allowing to directly link test results with user defined model identification and model validation procedures.

DIgSILENT PowerFactory Monitor for SESCO will be shipped on basis of ultra-portable signal units connected via USB port to high-end laptop systems. High precision time stamping is guaranteed via GPS receiver. As the PFM is operated on basis of standard MS-Windows, all kind of system integration and networking facilities are supported.
