The 3rd Southern African DIgSILENT conference was held on the 13&14 March 2013 at the picturesque Blue Valley Golf and Country Estate. The conference was well attended with over 85 delegates attending each day. The objective of the conference was to promote information sharing amongst the DIgSILENT user base in Southern Africa, and this objective was certainly achieved, based on the very positive feedback received from the delegates.
The first day focused on the users of DIgSILENT products sharing their experiences with the products. The keynote presentation was given by Flavio Fernandez, with an insightful presentation on the new features of PowerFactory V15.0. Presenters from different sectors of the electrical industry (transmission, distribution and industrial) shared their experiences on various projects where, in particular, PowerFactory was the core tool utilised.
Following the first day closure, delegates took part in a ‘closest to the pin’ competition. The course proved to be a lot more trickier this year, with a late afternoon storm making the green slippery. At the evening dinner, Colin Underwood had the crowd in stitches and amazement, with his unique combination of comedy and magic. Yet again, everyone had a theory on ‘how he did it’.

The conference was certainly a success with delegates already enquiring about plans for the 4th conference. The conference has subsequently been accredited with two Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points by the South African Institute of Electrical Engineer (SAIEE), which is testament to the high quality of the information shared.
