Special HVDC Modeling Training at ISA/Colombia

For a planned project to interconnect the systems of Central America and South America at the boarder between Colombia and Panama , ISA/Colombia has requested DIgSILENT GmbH to present a special training course on HVDC modelling and analysis. During the week of Febr. 17-21, 2003 Dr. Markus Pöller conducted the training at ISA's offices in Medellin.

The training covered all relevent aspects to HVDC modeling and design, including steady state and dynamic converter models, harmonic generation, filter design, controller design and tuning, typical HVDC topologies, impact of weak AC networks and an overview about VSC technologies (HVDC light, HVDC plus).

During the one-week training course, a fully working interconnected system was prepared allowing ISA to efficiently and precisely carry out further studies on the mentioned project using PowerFactory, which is the standard planning and operation analysis tool in Venezuela , Colombia and Ecuador.
