DIgSILENT Robotics Team gets the RISING STAR AWARD and the Third Place in the Robot Game at the First Lego League Competition in Madrid
Since 2011, DIgSILENT Ibérica has been involved in supporting very young future engineers and programmers as part of our Social Responsibility Program.
FIRST LEGO League® (www.firstlegoleague.org) is a robotics program for 10 to 16 year old kids, designed to motivate them about science and technology.
DIgSILENT Ibérica created a robotics team in October 2011 composed of 10 friends and schoolmates from different nationalities (Spain, Germany, France and Holland). One adult coach and one mentor from DIgSILENT Ibérica committed themselves to invest time and energy enough with the team to succeed in a very ambitious project: to help the children have fun while getting comfortable with technology and face a real-world problem.
The team worked very hard during 5 months to design, build and program a LEGO MINDSTORMS® NXT robot. Along the way, they identified and conducted research on a food safety issue and developed an innovative solution to avoid the use of pesticides by using multiple crops in the same space (Polyculture) and guarantee the intensive farming irrigation in areas without water and electrical energy.
During the course of the First Lego League Competition that took place on the 19th February in Madrid, the judges recognized the efforts, performance and merits of our team, called “Club DIgSILENT HDLL”. The team was so close to winning the Robot Game (Third Place!) and performed so well during the Scientific Project Presentation that the judges choose to give special recognition with the RISING STAR Award.
We all expect great things from this team in the future!
