The 2nd PowerFactory user group workshop for European transmission system operators took place from 27th to 28th September, 2016 at DIgSILENT’s headquarters in Gomaringen.
The workshop attracted almost 40 attendees and consisted of talks and presentations about PowerFactory solutions in the areas of transmission system planning and system operation. Arne Ellerbrock from DIgSILENT kicked off the workshop with a recapitulation of the topic Common Grid Model Exchange Standard (CGMES). Following this, practical PowerFactory application cases were presented by the users that ranged from dynamic modelling on interconnected European network model, “dynamisation” of a load flow model in PowerFactory, stability assessment with forecast models to transmission network data exchange challenges. Interesting conversation over a good dinner in a relaxed atmosphere completed the first day’s schedule.
One of the main focuses of the second day of the workshop was the topic “outage management” in PowerFactory. DIgSILENT presented solutions already practicable in PowerFactory version 2016 and gave an outlook about the development in PowerFactory 2017. Additionally two of the TSOs gave presentations about how outage management is treated within their company. Two other practical application cases followed, concerning the transmission system training simulator and the use of PowerFactory in system operation.
The workshop closed with an open discussion about TSO-specific requirements for future power system analysis, users being encouraged to provide suggestions on specific software features and functions that would assist in addressing their challenges.Back to News
