The following model provides an example of a long overhead line which is energised via pre-insertion resistors. The overhead line is modeled using a distributed parameters model having the geometry of a 400 kV tower.
The overhead line is first connected via the pre-insertion resistor for a duration of 10 ms. Then the current path is changed, isolating the pre-insertion resistor and connecting the line directly to the busbar via the circuit breaker.
The energy absorbed by the resistors is calculated using a simple DSL model.
