What is the difference of the cable analysis tools Cable Sizing and Cable Ampacity?
Category:
Additional Tools
Answer
The two cable analysis tools each have distinctive applications that they can be used for:
Cable Sizing:
- Planning a network from scratch
- Create new or select existing cable types
- Determination of the cross section
- Verify and recommend optimized cable types
- Simplified calculation of the derating factor
Cable Ampacity:
- Determine exact current capacity
- Detailed geometrical representation of cables
- Detailed installation conditions and surroundings
- Consideration of additional heat sources
Based on the different applications, the cable models that can be used in the calculations differ (see attached document):
Cable Sizing:
- Only the general line type (TypLne) which defines the cable in terms of its electrical data can be used.
Cable Ampacity:
- Only the cable system type (TypCabsys) which includes cable types with the geometrical data of cables (TypCab, TypCabmult) can be used.
