State Estimation

State estimation is a method for determining the most likely state of a network based on measured data and network topology. The State Estimation in PowerFactory is available for both balanced and unbalanced networks and includes a plausibility check to eliminate bad data as well as observability analysis to verify if the measurements in the system provide enough (non-redundant) information to estimate the state of that part of the network. Options for the treatment of unobservable areas allow estimation of the network state to be improved.

  • Assessment of balanced and unbalanced networks
  • P, Q, I and V-measurement models
  • Measurement plausibility checks
  • Automatic bad data detection/elimination
  • Verification of system observability
  • Various options to handle unobservable regions (e.g. pseudo measurements)
  • Consideration of load flow constraints
